Ronald McDonald House Cuts Ribbon on New Trustco Bank Home Town House

October 9th, 2024 | Client Triumph, News

(Albany, NY) Sept. 27, 2024 – The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region today held a ribbon cutting and dedication for its new Trustco Bank Home Town House building.  The newly renovated building, which was made possible by a generous financial donation by Trustco Bank, will free-up space in the main Ronald McDonald House residence to accommodate additional families whose children are receiving care in Capital Region hospitals.

“As we gather today to dedicate the Trustco Bank Home Town House, we pay tribute to everyone who made it a reality and would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Trustco Bank for their unwavering generous support and honor the memory of David Teiger whose estate acquired the property on our behalf,” said Dan Miller, president of the board of directors for the Ronald McDonald House.  “We are humbled by your generosity and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us extend our welcoming embrace to more families with sick children.”

“As the Capital Region’s Home Town Bank, we are honored to assist the Ronald McDonald House of the Capital Region in its mission to assist families with sick children during their times of need,” said Robert J. McCormick, President, Chairman, and CEO of Trustco Bank.  “Trustco Bank has a proud tradition of supporting our local communities and when the opportunity arose to help the Ronald McDonald House renovate 518 Warren Street so they could expand their services — we didn’t hesitate.”

Located at 518 Warren Street in Albany, adjacent to the existing Ronald McDonald House residence, the building was recently renovated and is host to several administrative and program spaces.  Trustco Bank Home Town House will include the READ for Ronald McDonald House Program Suite, the Northwestern Mutual “HOPE (Helping Our Preemies Excel) Program Suite,” a conference room, and business offices. Naming opportunities remain for the conference room, ADA accessible deck and ramp, and the office space for the Chief Financial Officer.

Ronald McDonald House’s mission is to draw on the compassion within our community to deliver programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and families. Trustco Bank saw the potential of this property in achieving that mission and supported the cost of the renovation.

In addition to opening additional residential space for families in the main campus building, the Trustco Bank Home Town House will provide space for important programming and support and play a vital role in helping families whose loved ones are receiving medical care.

For many families, without the no-cost lodging and meals provided by RMHC, being by their child’s side during their healing process wouldn’t be possible. While health insurance and financial assistance often cover the cost of medical care, the financial burden of taking time away from work to care for a child, and the costs incurred of living away from home can be overwhelming. It is critical that families remain together to support one another, and this is where Ronald McDonald House Charities makes a real difference. Without the support of generous individuals and organizations like Trustco Bank this wouldn’t be possible for many families.

From its humble beginnings 42 years ago the Albany Ronald McDonald House has grown from an eight-bedroom residence to a 25-bedroom complex complete with an arcade, movie theater, toy shop, and more. The addition of the Trustco Bank Home Town House “Makes More Room for Love” and expands upon the dream of providing a sanctuary for families facing their child’s most difficult medical challenges. With the continued support of our generous community partners, we know we can provide even greater services and support to families who are already carrying an unbearable burden.
